Renowned for being one of the longest running arts competition in Western Australia, the Kimberley Art Prize has been facilitated by the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley since 1970 and became an acquisitive prize until in 1978, when the introduction of acquiring the Overall Winner was introduced. The Shire now has 38 works in its public art collection which can be viewed in Shire public buildings.
Now in its 46th year, the growing profile of the competition attracts well over one hundred works each year and has become a major event in the Kimberley arts scene and attraction for visitors.
Some of the categories for the Photographic Awards include; Kimberley Landscape, Character Portraits, Black and White, Flora and Fauna and Youth.
For the Art Prize categories include; Aboriginal Artist, Oils and Acrylics, Watercolour and Pastel, Drawing, Boab Nut Carving, Youth and Open Non-Kimberley.
Entries open for the Photographic Awards Thursday 31 March and for the Art Prize Wednesday 22 June.
Exhibition for the Photographic Award opens to the Public on Saturday 18 June and for the Art Prize open to the Public on Saturday 2 July, both held at the Derby Civic Centre.
