Broome Senior High School is currently working with the Climate Clever Initiative to reduce waste and potentially save thousands of dollars in utility bills.
The ClimateClever Initiative is a low carbon, educational program underpinned by the innovative, data-driven ‘ClimateClever’ app. The app recently earned ClimateClever the ‘Innovation in Education’ prize at the 2018 Curtinnovation Awards.
The program helps schools measure their carbon emissions, understand how their buildings and facilities consume resources and take action to reduce their carbon emissions.
Horizon Power began sponsoring the program earlier this year and supported Dr Vanessa Rauland, founder of the ClimateClever Initiative, visiting the Kimberley region in March.
Horizon Power West Kimberley Retail and Community Manager, Jodie Lynch, said the company was proud to be involved with a program that supports schools and their students to reduce their carbon footprint.
“This program is providing schools and students with more control over energy usage and electricity bills by providing access to information they have never had before. We hope the program also encourages similar energy saving initiatives to be implemented in the home, helping our customers save on their power bills,” Ms Lynch said.
Broome Senior High School Principal Matt Burt commented that Broome Senior High School is excited to be part of the Climate Clever Initiative.
“As a school we are actively trying to reduce our waste and lower our utility bills. We see our partnership with Horizon Power and Climate Clever as a big step forward. Students studying a Certificate in Conservation and Land Management at Broome Senior High School will be leading the process,” Mr Burt said.
The Climate Clever 2018 Package is around $8 per student and provides access to online tools, teaching resources, comparison data with other schools, expert advice, yearly reports, quarterly meet ups and access to an online community.
