Australia’s Flagship puppetry Company, Spare Parts Puppet Theatre, will be bringing its art to regional Western Australia to delight children from Karratha to Kununurra in September.
Horizon Power is sponsoring the Go for 2&5 Regional Tour of Hachiko, a theatrical celebration of the remarkable joy and companionship that an animal can bring to our lives.
The tour begins on 7 September in the Pilbara and travels throughout the Kimberley.
Based on a true story from Japan, Hachiko’s gentle poetic storytelling ensures children will be drawn into the true story of a dog that waited at a Tokyo train station every day for nine years for his master to return.
The use of Japanese inspired papercraft brings Hachiko the dog and his owner, Professor Ueno, to life. The inseparable pair is joined by a host of other characters including the hopelessly obsessive dog-catcher and the nosy neighbour, which are played skilfully by performers Barnaby Pollock and Sean Guastavino.
Artistic Director of Spare Parts, Philip Mitchell said that Hachiko is a rich and powerful experience.

Horizon Power’s Brand and Communications Manager Andrew Riches said Horizon Power was excited to support Spare Parts Puppet Theatre to share the performance with children across the Pilbara and Kimberley.
“Children in regional Western Australian often do not have access to the same types of performances that children in the city can take for granted. We are proud to be supporting Spare Parts to bring Hachiko to the school children throughout the north of our State.”
