Esperance customers urged to remain safe around damaged infrastructure

Horizon Power is urging all Esperance evacuees returning to their properties to remain safe around damaged electrical infrastructure.

General Manager NIS Business Craig Julian said it is paramount that customers still without power do not connect generators without first consulting a licenced electrical contractor.

“Our crews are currently working on rebuilding the network. Any attempts to connect generator power could inadvertently connect back to the Horizon Power system which could endanger other customers and our staff.”

There are currently 144 customers without power in the Gibson and Condingup area.

Please stay clear of all electrical assets, in particular fallen powerlines. Call 13 23 51 to report a fault or emergency.

Power restored to customers in Salmon Gums and Grass Patch

Horizon Power crews made significant headway into the restoration of the devastated network last night with only 144 customers remaining without power in the Gibson and Condingup area.

However, restoration to remaining customers may take some time as we now anticipate up to 300 power poles burned down. 

As evacuees return to their homes General Manager NIS Business Craig Julian urged customers to contact a licensed electrical contractor if their meter box or wiring outside the home was damaged. “Our crews will be focusing on rebuilding the network in the next few days so it is really important that customers ensure their electricity connections are safe by contacting a licensed electrical contractor”

“For those customers still without power please ensure you consult a licensed electrical contractor before connecting any generator power as an unsafe installation could be fatal. We really appreciate customer’s support and thank them for their patience while we restore power as soon as possible.” Mr Julian said
