Being safe around electricity is the theme being promoted during a selection of WA Country Football League games this weekend (14-15 June), thanks to a new partnership between Horizon Power and the WA Country Football League.
The following Leagues fall within the Horizon Power regional network and have chosen to take part in the round:
- Central Kimberley Football League
- East Kimberley Football League
- Gascoyne Football League
- Esperance Districts Football Association
- North Pilbara Football League
- Ravensthorpe and District Football League
- West Kimberley Football League
Each League has been given a special Horizon Power match ball to be presented to the best player on the ground as well as a number of promotional footballs to hand out to the many kids who attend the round.
“Safety around electricity is a message we cannot stress enough and our new partnership with the WACFL allows us to spread our message and is hopefully a relationship we can grow in the future” said Horizon Power Brand and Communications Manager Andrew Riches.
Horizon Power crews attend many faults and incidents each year which result from damage to infrastructure caused by people not following electrical safety messages such as checking where electrical infrastructure is before undertaking work, keeping trees away from powerlines etc.
One of Horizon Power's Karratha crew members has just returned home to his family after spending more than a week in Perth receiving treatment for burns which resulted from someone undertaking work on a block and knocking over a mini-pillar containing electrical cable: causing a power outage and ultimately an injury.
“It’s always great to have new partners come on board to support our leagues and utilise our strong networks to promote health and safety messages in regional WA” said WACFL General Manager Joe Georgiades.
“The highlight will be seeing the kids kicking the Horizon Power footballs at half time as well as seeing a big crowd in attendance of the match in Broome and across our leagues."
North Pilbara Football League travel to Broome this weekend to take on the West Kimberley Football League in the WACFL’s first interleague match for 2014 with the event sponsored by Horizon Power.
Graham Gordon General Manager of the West Kimberley Football League spoke on the importance of this new sponsorship, “Without the support of Horizon Power this event wouldn’t have been possible so we hope to pack the ground out with 250 footballs going to the first kids through the gate.”
Mr Riches said Horizon Power not only provided energy to the regions but supported local communities through sponsorship, education and the safe and reliable delivery of power.
