Horizon Power prepared for Tropical Cyclone Narelle

Horizon Power has activated its Emergency Management Team and Local Response Teams in Carnarvon, Karratha and Port Hedland in response to Tropical Cyclone Narelle.

As at 2 pm, TC Narelle was at category 3 intensity and located 840 kilometres north of Karratha, moving south/southwest at 10 kilometres an hour. A cyclone watch is current for Whim Creek to Coral Bay in the Pilbara and the Midwest Gascoyne, including Karratha, Dampier, Onslow, Exmouth and surrounding areas.

Horizon Power General Manager Operations Ziggy WIlk said that TC Narelle was not yet impacting on power supplies but Horizon Power was ready to respond to any eventuality.

“We have additional resources on stand-by to mobilise and support our linecrews on the ground, fuel supplies at power stations have been checked and are sufficient and we will continue to monitor the latest weather reports to help us tailor our response to where it might be needed,” he said.

Mr Wilk urged residents in the north of the state to actively prepare now.

“Spending a few hours to take a few simple steps can really help minimise damage,” he said.

“Cleaning up around the outside of your home and making sure boats, caravans, chairs and tables are secured or stored away, will help prevent damage to your property and that of your neighbours.”
