The Pilbara Underground Power Project (PUPP) continues to make great progress throughout Karratha with all properties in the Karratha Light Industrial Area (LIA) now connected to the underground power network.
After more than twelve months of excavation, drilling, commissioning and electrical works throughout the Karratha LIA, all 300 properties have been individually converted to the underground power network with the last property connected last week.
PUPP Project Manager James Carney said the LIA had been a challenge for everyone involved due to the size of the connections and the nature of the work in the area however this section of the project remains on time and on budget.
“Our team and our contractors All West Drilling and Electech WA have worked long hours throughout the last few months to ensure all properties were connected on time,” Mr Carney said. “We thank all the businesses in the Karratha LIA for their support and cooperation over the switching period.”
Dismantling of the overhead infrastructure throughout the Karratha LIA is now well underway with powerlines between Mooligunn Rd and Coolawanyah Rd already removed. The next stage of works will be to take down the old power poles which is due to commence in July 2016 once the contract has been awarded.
Other areas of the project that are in progress include the Karratha CBD and Roebourne which are both due for completion in coming weeks and Pegs Creek which will be finished in late 2016.
