Pilbara schools have got the power

Students at Marble Bar and Nullagine primary schools have been on a powerful journey of discovery with Horizon Discovery Zone, Horizon Power’s Education Program.

Horizon Power’s Education Officer Gabrielle Migliore and Power Systems Officer Steve Kiernan visited over 60 students, reconnecting with the students since their last visit during the opening of Horizon Power’s solar power station in Marble Bar and Nullagine.

The program provides schools with free resources, equipment and workshops about safety around electricity, the science of electricity, renewable energy sources and how to save electricity. Horizon Discovery Zone workshops are designed to involve students in hands-on learning about electrical energy, circuits, the electrical network and how to stay safe around electricity.

"Students are given the opportunity to explore Horizon Power’s infrastructure in the classroom, for example underground cables and pole-top insulators, so they better understand the importance of staying safe,”  said Horizon Power’s Education Officer Gabrielle Migliore.

"Horizon Power believes it is important to ensure students have an understanding of electricity and it’s a great way for us to add lasting value to the community."

Horizon Power’s Education Program features a fully stocked resource kit for schools to book and use in their school, free of charge. The kit includes a teacher resource book, designed to achieve the Australian Curriculum outcomes and General Capabilities, along with all the resources required to carry out the activities.

Teachers also have access through our Horizon Discovery Zone website to a range of information sheets, fun stuff for students and lesson materials supporting our Discovering Electricity Kits. Students can explore interactive games, quizzes and other fun activities at
