Severe thunderstorms cause power outages in Esperance region

Severe thunderstorms in the Esperance region have caused a number of power outages for Horizon Power customers in west Esperance, Salmon Gums and Condingup areas.

Retail and Community Manager Donna Gibson said the Esperance region has seen heavy rains, strong winds and lightning which has led to multiple outages around the region.

“Just over 300 customers in the west of Esperance lost power following lightening in the area at approximately 11.30am today, and are expected to be without power for several hours.

“Heavy rain and winds have also resulted in multiple outages in Salmon Gums and Condingup, which are hampering our efforts to restore power to customers west of Esperance,” Ms Gibson said.

“Our crews are working tirelessly to restore power as quickly as safely possible. However, their efforts are being hampered by the severe weather conditions and difficult terrain when patrolling the lines to isolate the exact location of the damage to repair.

We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience this has caused, and thank everyone for their patience.”

Fallen powerlines may appear harmless, but could be live and potentially dangerous. Community members are encouraged to stay at least 10 metres away, warn others and call Horizon Power immediately on 13 23 51.

Please report any faults or emergencies to 13 23 51.
