Australia’s flagship puppetry company, Spare Parts Puppet Theatre, is encouraging regional schools in the Midwest and Gascoyne to be part of an under the sea experience with its latest tour in May.
Horizon Power is sponsoring the Go for 2&5 Regional Schools Tour of Blueback, a theatrical adaption of renowned author Tim Winton’s book that is set along the Western Australian coast and captures the mystery of the sea.
The story evokes the majesty of an old groper called Blueback and the moment when an inquisitive boy stands up for what he loves and believes in.
Regional schools are being invited to submit expressions of interest to host a performance at their school and to take part in puppetry workshops, which are being offered through Horizon Power as an additional free activity focussing on energy safety.
Spare Parts Puppet Theatre, Executive Producer, Natalie Bell said it was hoped that schools in Onslow, Carnarvon, Gascoyne Junction, Exmouth and Denham would become involved in the Term 2 tour from 1 May – 17 May.
“Now in its fourth year, our partnership with Horizon Power uniquely positions Spare Parts Puppet Theatre to take high quality puppetry performances to Western Australia’s north-west regions,” Ms Bell said.
“The experience of watching a show and having a hands on experience making or performing with a puppet has a lasting impact on children and empowers their creativity, resilience and ability to have empathy with others.”
Horizon Power Retail and Community Manager Michelle South said Horizon Power was excited to support Spare Parts Puppet Theatre with such a brilliant production based on the work of an iconic Western Australian author.
“Children in regional Western Australia often can’t access the same types of artistic performances that are experienced by children in the city,” Ms South said.
“Therefore, Horizon Power is extremely proud to support this tour which will provide many primary and lower secondary school children with the opportunity to experience this incredible display of auditory and visual media, along with our important energy safety messages.”
