Australia's longest EV highway

We’re building Australia’s longest Electric Vehicle highway

We’re helping WA transition to a cleaner, greener electric vehicle future, building the supporting infrastructure that will open up our vast state to Electric Vehicles.

Working together with Synergy and the WA State Government, we’re building Australia’s longest electric vehicle fast charging network – from Kununurra in the north to Esperance in the south.

When complete, EV drivers will have access to 90 EV chargers spread across 45 locations along major transport routes.

The Electric Vehicle Action Plan

The electric Vehicle highway is one part of the WA State Government’s Electric Vehicle Action Plan. The EV Action Plan provides an integrated set of actions designed to deliver a future where EVs contribute to a safe, reliable and efficient electricity system while accelerating our transition to a low-carbon future.

Installation of the charging stations will commence in the last half of 2022 with the project expected to be completed by 2024.

The EV charging network will be made up of a combination of rapid, fast and slow chargers. Depending on the make and model of the vehicle, and the charger you’re using it may need to be plugged in for as little as 15 minutes to top up and get you on your way.

We’re going to make it easy to understand how much it will cost to charge your EV at each of the stations. We’re working through what these costs look like right now, but you’ll be able to check the cost to charge before you charge.

The locations selected for the installation of fast charging infrastructure have been identified via the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Strategic Planning Report with input derived from Local Government Authorities and Regional Development Commissions.

Horizon Power and Synergy are currently working on a joint request for tender pack and this will be an open tender exercise.  The tender will be advertised on WA Tenders and we expect to go out to the market by the end of 2021. There will be a tender clarification period for suppliers and interested parties once the tender has been released.
